Course Overview

MSOC Course | Apply Workplace Safety and Health in Metal Work Course, formerly known as Safety Orientation Course for Workers Metalworking, all metalworking workers must complete this mandatory WSH training course before starting work.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:

  • Identify your roles and responsibilities in metalworking
  • Follow safe work procedures
  • Respond effectively to fire emergencies.

Prerequisites:

Before beginning this course, it’s essential to have the following:

  • Learners must be over 18 years of age.
  • Learners must have employment status as manual labor in a factory engaged in manufacturing basic metals, fabricated metal products, machinery or equipment, and electrical machinery and apparatus.
  • Learners must be medically fit.
  • Learners must be able to listen, read, speak, and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to Employability Skills (ES) level 2.
  • Learners must be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to Employability Skills (ES) level 2.
  • Learners must have good organizational skills.
  • Learners must be able to follow written and oral work instructions.

Learning Units:

  • Identify own roles and responsibilities in metalworking
    • Identify legal obligations in Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) requirements.
    • Identify own rights and responsibilities under WSH legal requirements.
    • Identify own rights and responsibilities under the Employment Act and Workplace Injury Compensation Act.
  • Follow safe work procedures in metalworking
    • Identify safety signs in a factory.
    • Identify common workplace hazards in a factory.
    • Identify relevant risk control measures to be implemented according to organisational procedure.
    • Follow the “Permit-to-Work (PTW)” procedure according to organisational procedures.
    • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) according to organizational procedures.
  • Respond to fire emergencies
    • Follow fire evacuation procedures based on incidents at the site under organizational firefighting procedures.
    • Identify correct types of fire extinguishers, to use in the event of a fire.
    • Apply the correct techniques to extinguish a fire according to established organisational firefighting procedures.

Certifications Granted:

WSQ (SOA) Statement of Attainment (e-certificate) will be issued for the courses conducted in English only.

When registering foreign workers for the AWSMW course, please use their work permit numbers. We cannot upload the AWSMW course test results to the MOM website using the participant’s passport number; only the work permit number can be used. Ensure you register workers with their work permit numbers so we can upload the test results to the MOM website upon course completion. Employers cannot apply for or renew a work permit if the AWSMW course test result is not uploaded to the MOM website.

Additionally, a $30 fee applies to reprint the card if it was originally printed with the passport number instead of the work permit number.

Class Requirements:

Trainees must bring one of the following (photocopy or original): Work Permit, IPA and Passport, or NRIC/S Pass/Employment Pass.
Proper attire, including safety shoes, is required (no singlets, shorts, or bermudas).
Only trainees with 100% attendance may take the test. Latecomers will not be allowed into the class.
From 1 Jan 2024, assessments will move online, with photo capturing using a proctoring system during the assessment.

Medium of Instructions: English, Mandarin, Myanmar, Thai, Malay, Bengali, and Tamil.
