To obtain a Food Hygiene Certificate in Singapore, you can:

  • Enroll with Absolute Kinetics Consultancy (AKC) – Sign up for the (FSC L1 directly with AKC.

How long is the Food Hygiene Course?

The duration of the Food Hygiene Course (FSC L1) is as follows:

  • FSC L1: 6 hours of training + 1.5 hour assessment
  • FSC L1 Refresher: 3 hours of training + 1.5 hour assessment
  • FSC L1 Assessment Only Pathway: 1.5 hour assessment

Is Food Hygiene Course Mandatory?

Effective 1 July 2023, all food handlers employed in both retail and non-retail food establishments licensed by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) are required to obtain the Food Safety Course Level 1 (FSC) certification.

Course Overview

The Food Safety Course Level 1, Formerly known as the Food Safety Hygiene Course or the Basic Food Hygiene Course, is mandatory for all food handlers. The Food Hygiene Course also enables an individual to have a valid FSC L1 which is also a Food Hygiene Certificate to become a qualified Food Handler.

  • Handle food safely
  • Store food safely
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and premises

Prerequisites:

Before beginning this course, it’s essential to have the following:

  • Dress Code:
    • Appropriate Attire
      • No slippers
      • Long hair must be tied up
      • No nail polish

Certifications Granted:

WSQ (SOA) Statement of Attainment (e-certificate) will be issued for the courses conducted in English & Mandarin.

Class Size and Facilitator-Learner Ratio

  • Theory Session: Maximum of 20 trainees per trainer.
  • Practical Session: 4 trainees to 1 trainer, ensuring hands-on guidance and personalized support.

Assessment Format & Duration

  • Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ): 50 minutes
  • Short Answer Questions: 10 minutes
  • Practical Assessment: 30 minutes
  • Total Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Passing Criteria
To be deemed “Competent,” trainees must meet the following requirements. Failure to meet any of these will result in a status of NYC (Not Yet Competent), requiring the trainee to retake the course:

  • Written Assessment: Achieve a “C” grade or higher for all questions in the MCQ and short answer segments.
  • Practical Assessment: Achieve a “C” grade or higher for all questions during the practical assessment.
  • Attendance: 100% attendance is mandatory to complete the course.

Learners are eligible for SSG training grants only if they pass the course. Those who fail the assessment will not qualify for course funding. Candidates are encouraged to assess their capability in food safety practices before registering
