Course Overview

The Apply Workplace Safety and Health in Shipyard General Trade Course, formerly known as the Shipyard Safety Instruction Course for Worker General Trade (SSIC Course), equips participants with a basic understanding of workplace safety and health hazards in the shipbuilding and repair industry.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, you’ll be equipped to:

  • Understand legal obligations in workplace safety and health
  • Identify hazards in a shipyard
  • Recognize the different types of industrial safety signs
  • Understand the application process for a safety permit before hot work
  • Don personal protective equipment
  • Apply safety precautions when working with different hazards
  • Respond effectively to fire and emergency situations.

Prerequisites:

Before beginning this course, it’s essential to have the following:

  • Trainees must attend 100% of the class. Latecomers will NOT be permitted.

  • From 1 Jan 2024, assessments will be online, replacing paper assessments. The proctoring system will capture trainee photos during the online test.

  • Personal Protective Equipment

Certifications Granted:

WSQ (SOA) Statement of Attainment (e-certificate) will be issued for the courses conducted in English only.

Under FACTORIES (Shipbuilding and Ship Repair) Regulation R23(1), no Shipyard Worker (General) may perform hazardous work in a shipyard or aboard a ship in the harbor without completing the Chief Inspector-approved Shipyard Safety Instruction Course for Workers (General Trade).

Starting 1 Jan 2024, assessments will be conducted online, replacing hard copy assessments. During the online assessment, trainee photos will be captured using a proctoring system.
