Course Overview

The Supervise Work in Confined Space Operation Course (SWCSO), previously known as the Safety Instruction Course (Manhole) for Supervisors is a crucial training program for supervising confined space activities in the process industry, particularly for manhole supervisors in construction worksites.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, you’ll be equipped to:

  • Recognize and fulfill your roles and responsibilities within a construction environment.
  • Adhere to and implement safe work procedures specific to construction tasks.
  • Apply appropriate safety measures when working at heights.
  • Effectively respond to fire emergencies.

Prerequisites:

Before beginning this course, it’s essential to have the following:

  • Have basic supervision skills.
  • Have basic knowledge of the Singapore Workplace Safety and Health requirements.
  • Have basic knowledge of Safety management systems.
  • Have basic knowledge of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Be able to follow written and oral work instructions.
  • Be able to listen, read, speak, and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills System (ESS) level 5.
  • Be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to Employability Skills System (ESS) level 5.

Trainees must bring along any one of the following documents (photocopy or original) to be allowed to attend the class:

  • Work permit
  • IPA and Passport
  • NRIC / S Pass / Employment Pass.

Trainees must wear Safety Shoes and be properly attired (No Singlet/Shorts/Bermudas).

Learning Units:

  • Identify duties and responsibilities of a Confined Space Supervisor under the WSH legislations and Codes of Practice.
  • Identify, prevent, and control confined space hazards.
  • Carry out and comply with the requirements of the Confined Space Entry Permit System using a systematic approach.
  • Apply Gas Detection Instruments and other control measures when working in a confined space.
  • Implement the safe use of personal protective equipment and respiratory protective equipment when in a confined space.
  • Assist in implementing an Emergency Response Plan.

Certifications Granted:

WSQ (SOA) Statement of Attainment (e-certificate) will be issued for the courses conducted in English only.
