Settling In Programme for Foreign Domestic Workers | SIP Course

Course Overview

The Settling-In Programme | SIP Course for Migrant Domestic Workers (Domestic Helper) is a 1-day orientation programme for first-time MDWs to educate them on safety precautions and living in Singapore.

Prerequisites:

Before beginning this course, it’s essential to have the following:

  • Educational requirements: Must have a minimum of 8 years of formal education with a recognized certificate
  • In-principle approval (IPA) letter (complete set of Employee’s copy).
  • Original passport.
  • A copy of the MDW’s educational certificate. (Must have a minimum of 8 years of formal education with a recognized certificate)

Learning Units:

  • Introduction to Singapore.
  • Employment Conditions.
  • Safety at Home.
  • Safety in other areas.
  • Relationship and stress management.

Additional Details:

First-time MDWs must attend this course within 7 days of arrival, excluding Sundays and public holidays. MDWs can only begin work after completing the SIP and must be at least 23 years old.

Complimentary lunch and snacks are provided.

MDWs will not be allowed to attend the SIP if payment is not completed before the course begins.

A first-time MDW refers to someone who has never worked in Singapore as an FDW, including those with no MDW employment record with MOM’s Work Pass Division or who have an employment record but didn’t work in Singapore.

Course Duration:

9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Registration runs from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM.
Latecomers will not be admitted into the class.
Classes in English, Bahasa Indonesia, Burmese, and Tagalog are conducted Monday through Saturday.

International classes in English with AKC interpreters for languages such as Bengali, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Thai, Tamil, Chin, and Mizo are held on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Khmer classes are available every Saturday.

International class registrations must be made at least 2 days in advance to secure an interpreter for the respective native language.

For other languages, employment agencies are responsible for providing interpreters at their own expense. Only Singaporeans or Singapore Permanent Residents are allowed to serve as interpreters.

Trainer-Trainee Ratio:

For all languages except Bahasa Indonesia: 1:30
For Bahasa Indonesia: 1:20
